Friday’s Favorites

It’s FriYAY and a long weekend!  Yahoo!  As you know I am doing a post every Friday with a few of my favorite things.  They won’t always be fashion related, just things that I love and can’t live without.  My first Friday’s Favorite is this Pampered Chef I Slice.  Guys, this little gadget is amazing.  I use it to cut open my mail (boxes and envelopes) and I don’t get paper cuts.  Those are seriously the worst!  You can also use it to open DVD’s or CD’s or anything that is hard to get into.  I know I hate using my nails or teeth on dumb little packages I can’t open.  The I Slice will change your life.  It has a little blade on the end and it only cuts through the first layer of paper, plastic, etc.  Now put down your scissors, knives and razor blades and go get this little guy now.  It is also magnetic so you can put it on your refrigerator.  I lose so many little gadgets and I’m so happy that this has a magnet on it.  I’ve only had to buy it once thank goodness!  My second favorite item is this pair of sunglasses!  I am a sunglass addict!  I just bought 10 pair this week.  That’s no joke, you can as Daniel.  I love any round or aviator shaped sunglass.  I choose those two styles the most because I think they are the most flattering on my face.  I’ve found a few affordable websites that only have sunglasses.  I know I misplace mine or sit on them or shove them in my purse without a case and they break.  I hate that, but since I am trying to buy more affordable sunglasses it’s not so painful when they break!  Lastly, is this Mac lip stick.  I love majority of Mac’s colors, but this one is called Lady Danger and I seriously can’t get enough of it.  It has a little bit of an orange tint to it, but ladies it looks so good on.  If you’re having a bad day put on a bold lip color and it will make you feel so much better.  I know some of you are saying I can’t pull off bright lip stick, but you can.  Just be daring and try a red or pink.  Those are always safe and fun, but I do encourage you to try this color!  I’ve bought it three times already!  Anyway… I hope you are going to enjoy your three-day weekend.  I know I am!  I am actually in Lake Mead right now!  Pics from my trip will be up sometime next week.

Go to Stripes

Hello!  So, my go to outfits always have some sort of stripe in them.  I don’t know what it is about a stripe, but I love them.  I’m pretty sure that’s how you all are too.  They go well with skirts, jeans, sweats, and just about everything else.  I love this outfit because it’s so effortless, but it looks like I took time to get ready.  I’m pretty sure I’ll be wearing this outfit on rotation in my closet.  If you don’t have boyfriend jeans get some.  They are so versatile.  I wear mine with sandals, sneakers and heals.  It’s so fun to play around with them.  Anyway… Enough about this outfit.  I have a funny story for you.  So you all know that I got married about 10 months ago.  In my post about Daniel I said that he was Brazilian.  He came to America when he was about one and a half years old.  Once we were married we applied for his green card.  Finally months and months of waiting we got an interview to see if we would get approved or not.  We were both a little nervous because we didn’t know what kind of questions they were going to ask us.  We got all of our paper work done plus some.  The guy asked Daniel generic questions such as, what’s your name?  What’s your address?  What’s your date of birth?  He went on for a little and asked him some other things then it was my turn.  He asked me the same generic questions, but when he asked what day we got married I went blank!  I was thinking July 22 (which is the date we got married) but I said July 21!  He looked at me and said, “Your marriage license says the 22.”  Ugh! The most important question I needed to answer and I got wrong!  I was and am still so embarrassed!  I really do know what day we got married!  And don’t worry we passed and he’s getting his green card!  We are so happy.  Hopefully in the next few months we can go out of the country!  Yahoo!  I am so excited!  Well, I hope you got a laugh.  Have a good day!

Friday’s Favorites

I’m so excited that this is my first craft on my blog.  I am seriously obsessed with dishes.  Anytime I am in Target, Anthropologie, Ikea or Crate and Barrel I have to “look” at the dishes, which most of the time “look” means buy.  I really don’t have any more room left in my cupboards, but I will make room.  I was joking with my mom saying I might have to start storing dishes under our couch in the living room!  This craft is super inexpensive.  I got the plates from Tai Pan and the Dollar Tree.  Obviously, the plates at the Dollar Tree were $1, but they were also $1 and Tai Pan.  Really, that’s the only expense you have unless you don’t have Sharpies at your house, but if you don’t they are only a few dollars at the store.  First I decided what pattern I wanted to do.  I wanted two of my plates to say “Eat” on them so I used my Cricut machine and cut “Eat” onto vinyl and made it 4” tall.  I also choose the skinny text mode so all my text would fit on the plate.  Oh and I wanted square dishes because all my other ones are round.  I am a perfectionist so it took me a while to do all of these plates.  By looking at my plates you probably are thinking it wouldn’t take long, but I couldn’t decide what to put on the plates that didn’t say eat.  I tried arrows, triangles, hexagons and finally decided on the simple dot border.  I redid the dot pattern about 5 times on each plate.  Windex or rubbing alcohol will be your bff If you are like me and need to try a million different things before deciding on something.  Just put it on a paper towel or directly on the plate and wipe it off.  Once I was done with my design I let them sit overnight.  The next day I set my oven at 425 degrees and placed them in there for thirty minutes.  Don’t take them out until they are 100% cooled.  Also, note that the dishes you buy may say dishwasher safe, but if you put them in the dishwasher your design could wash off.  Hand wash them if you want them to last!  I hope you all try this fun craft!  If you do #themelissaedition on Instagram or DM me @themelissaedition.

Short Hair Don’t Care

If you haven’t noticed I cut my hair!  It’s a good 10-11” shorter now.  I was always planning on cutting it, but was only going to do 5” or so.  I was talking to my sister and she said, “Why don’t you donate it?”  I said, “Because I don’t want to cut 12” off.”  She told me that through Pantene the minimum was 8”.  I got to thinking, 8” isn’t so bad.  It won’t look super short plus I needed a change.  My long hair was getting in the way.  It was tucking into my pants, it was getting in my food and it was just getting annoying.  When I went to get it cut at Shaylee Burr’s house (yes, she is the one who takes my pictures too.  She does it all people!) we first put it in a ponytail and measured 8”.  If I would have done 8” it still would have been in the middle of my back.  I told her to do 10” and she did!  It was so weird to hold my long long hair that took me forever to grow out in my hands.  My husband, Daniel was there and when we were done cutting the ponytail he put it at the back of his neck and it looked like he had a long pony.  (Pics of him are at the bottom)  It was so funny.  I love his sense of humor!  After I did it, I didn’t have cutters remorse.  I was so happy with my decision and I’m glad it can help to make real wigs for women who have cancer.  If you have long hair and want to cut and donate it, DO IT!  Before you do, make sure you meet the requirements on their website.  If you do end up cutting and donating it please let me know.  Email me @themelissaedition@gmail.com or DM me on Instagram @themelissaedition.  Happy Day before the weekend!

Friday’s Favorites My Boyfriend

Happy Friday!  I am starting a new thing on Friday’s.  I am going to list a few of my favorite things!  Obviously my first post is going to be about my husband.  He’s my favorite thing in the whole world and I am obsessed with him!  Anyway…  My husband is the best man on the planet!  If you read my This Is Me post I said a little about him, but I think it’s time to introduce him properly.  Daniel Filippi is my husband.  We met at the end of 2012 and the past three and a half years have been the best of my life!  I can’t believe I’m admitting this, but I am two years older than Daniel.  When I first met him, I figured he was maybe a year younger than me.  I ALWAYS said and never did date someone younger than me.  That was always a no no in my book.  Well, I guess I jinxed myself because we are married now!  JK I wouldn’t have chosen anyone else!  Anyway, after a few dates I told my friends that I was going to marry him.  He was and is so sweet to me!  I couldn’t resist his charm and sweet talk.  If you don’t know Daniel, he is Brazilian.  A friend of mine told me when we first started to date that majority of Brazilian men are sweet talkers.  Boy, isn’t that the truth!  But since I am a hopeless romantic I love it!  Daniel is the best provider for our little family of two.  He is such a hard worker and never gives up.  He is always pushing me to be a better person.  He is so funny!  There isn’t a day that goes by that I’m not laughing with him.  He is definitely going to be the best dad.  Anytime we are around my nieces and nephews they flock to him.  Even kids we don’t know love him.  They are always smiling, laughing and playing with him.  I am so excited to see him as a dad, but I can for sure wait a bit to start our family.  Lastly, (but really I could go on forever about him) Daniel is so smoking hot.  If you ever have the chance to stare into his eyes do it!  His eyes are so cool.  The outsides of them are green then they go brown around the pupil.  His style is always on point too and I rarely have to help him get dressed.  I love our life so much and can’t wait to see what the future holds.  Daniel, I love you more than the most!
